Tools: Building Human Resources

BUILDING HUMAN RESOURCES

Improved resident skills for good jobs, for running one's business, and for citizen leadership are central to strengthening a community. Local people may have the motivation to build a better future, but they need the confidence and skills and knowledge to do the necessary tasks. A community economic development organization (CEDO) always promotes services that build those skills and confidence and knowledge, either by creating the services or by collaborating with other agencies to provide them.

Under this topic the tools range from overall planning of a human resource strategy to services for personal development, for job skill improvement, and for self-employment. Citizen leadership skills are dealt with under the topic Doing the Research, Planning, and Advocacy.

This topic includes an entry on planning and then three sub-topics: Personal Development; Employment Services; and Self-Employment Services. The sub-topic of Developing Leadership, which might well be considered here, is instead located under the topic of Doing the Planning, Research, and Advocacy.

From this page you can download 11 tools and techniques for Building Human Resources. Case studies pertinent to the practical application of many entries are also available from the CED Digital Bookshop.
