A major challenge looms with respect to generating new leadership amongst community economic development practitioners and development managers. Through its old project arm, Westcoast Development Group, CCE pioneered the development of CED training manuals and facilitator guides, and other publications to support the work of practitioners. As the demand for CED training has grown, it has become apparent that a more clearly-defined educational path must be accessible to those who want to prepare themselves for CED as a profession. CCE works with universities, colleges, and other organizations and specialists to design and deliver CED programs and curricula in a range of settings. Our high quality, applied programs emphasize clear values, a strategic approach to CED, and excellence in process and key technical skills. Here are some of the specific services we provide:
These are some of our many clients: (institutional) Nicola Valley Institute of Technology (B.C.), Algoma University (Ontario), Boreal College (Ontario), University of British Columbia, Royal Roads University (B.C.), Human Resource Development Canada, Indian & Northern Affairs Canada; (intermediary organizations) Atlantic CED Institute (Nova Scotia), Nisga'a Tribal Council (B.C.), Treaty 3 Grand Council (Ontario), LifeSpin (Ontario). A SAMPLE OF CCE IN ACTION CCE is currently engaged in CED curricular and program development in partnership with a number of post secondary institutions. The Community Economic and Social Development Program of Algoma University College (Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario) is fully operational. The first cohort of graduates will receive their BAs in 2004. Several other northern Ontario community colleges are currently co-ordinating their efforts to create CED certificate level curricula similar to that of Algoma. We are currently preparing bilingual curricular materials for Boreal College (Sudbury, Ontario) for its 2-year certificate program aimed at the Franco-Ontario population. At the postgraduate level, CCE is partnering with Royal Roads University to develop a full MA-level distance education CED curriculum.
