Centre for Community Enterprise

Centre for Community Enterprise

Launched in 1988, the Centre for Community Enterprise (CCE) is committed to building the capacity of community based organizations to realize durable social and economic benefits. It is CCE's mission:

"To undertake and promote approaches to training, technical assistance, publishing, research, networking, investment, and public policy that foster creative, inclusive, and sustainable community economies, particularly among Canada's marginalized populations."

CCE works under a Trust indenture. Its net profits are distributed annually to a nonprofit beneficiary, the Canadian Centre for Community Renewal (CCCR). CCCR supports research, publishing, networking and a range of developmental activities to strengthen the field of CED in Canada. Our national quarterly magazine Making Waves is one example of this commitment. Ongoing support for the Canadian CED Network (CCEDNet) is another.

In addition to these activities, nonprofit priorities include support for international development relationship building and learning (we are partners of Canadian Crossroads International and PEAP/Foncresol in Bolivia, for example), CED curriculum development for universities and colleges, and development finance research and policy promotion.

In terms of personnel, CCE currently has 13 staff at work in a number of places in British Columbia. The Publication Division operates out of Vernon, the Technical Assistance Division from Port Alberni, and Westcoast Community Enterprise Division in Vancouver. Westcoast provides business and self-employment training services for marginalized populations and neighbourhoods, and is CCE's only actual "storefront." Five associates of the CCE and two organizational affiliates are based in locations across Canada and in the United States. We also work with a range of other excellent contractors to meet project requirements.
